SILK ROAD SPIRIT
Sacred Music from India, Turkey and Spain
Sacred Music from India, Turkey and Spain
The Silk Road has been the cultural, economic and political backbone of the world from the Atlantic shores to the Pacific Ocean. Starting from China and traveling thru the Central Asia, Middle East and the Mediterranean, people traveled and created a cultural highway to carry many cultures including their poetry, stories and musics.
This Duo, “Silk Road Spirit” represent the key players of the ancient Silk Road. Turkish saz player and singer Latif Bolat is from Turkey. The flute master Rodrigo Parejo Mateos is from the Western end of the Silk Road, Spain.
This duo combines the cultures of many people along the Silk Road and present them in a very creative fashion to the audiences. Each individual performer is already very accomplished in their filed and they have performed all over the six continent, for combined 120 years of musical experience.
A typical concert of the duo contains traditional spiritual Sufi music of the Turkish dervishes and the warm Spanish and Andalusian sound of the Iberia.
In addition to the incredible musical presentation, this program contains spiritual poetry of the Silk Road like Rumi and Yunus Emre from Turkey, Kabir and Amir Khusrev from India, Ibn Arabi of Cordoba.
Sometimes the duo also presents the dance dimension of the mystic Sufis, namely Whirling Dervishes in order to reflect the ancient Sema whirling practices and modern interpretation of this dance tradition. As well invites to the Indian Tabla master Rashmi Bhatt who comes from the eastern end of the Silk Road.
