THE PROJECT

From Flamenco to Gamelan: A Sound Journey Without Borders

Nomads is the latest project by Rodrigo Parejo Quartet, exploring the meeting point between contemporary jazz, flamenco, Southeast Asian traditions and cinematic composition.

Blending influences from Indonesia, Spain, Latin America, Japan and beyond, the quartet creates an original musical language where improvisation, lyrical melodies and rich textures coexist naturally.

Rather than presenting a fusion of styles, Nomads proposes a shared musical space where different cultural traditions interact organically. The result is an immersive concert experience that moves effortlessly between intimate lyricism, rhythmic energy and expansive cinematic soundscapes.

Released in 2025, the album was recorded between Jakarta (Indonesia) and Extremadura (Spain), bringing together musicians from Europe and Southeast Asia in a truly international collaboration.

THE ALBUM

Released in 2025, Nomads was recorded between Indonesia and Spain and features Indonesian pianist Sri Hanuraga, bassist Kevin Yosua and drummer Elfa Zulham.

Blending contemporary jazz with influences from flamenco, Southeast Asian traditions, cinematic music and improvisation, the album reflects Rodrigo Parejo's ongoing artistic dialogue between Europe and Asia. It also features guest appearances by flamenco singer Francisco Escudero "El Perrete" and an international string ensemble.

THE ENSEMBLE

The Rodrigo Parejo Quartet performs with different line-ups depending on the touring region, allowing the project to maintain long-term artistic collaborations in both Europe and Southeast Asia.

The current Southeast Asian line-up features pianist Sri Hanuraga, bassist Jason Mountario and drummer Kelvin Andreas.

For European tours, the quartet collaborates with a selection of acclaimed Spanish and European jazz musicians, including César Latorre, Manuel Borraz, Juanlu García, Rafael Morales, Javier Moreno, Pablo Báez, Miguel Benito, Pier Bruera and Marc Pinyol.

Rodrigo Parejo is a Spanish flutist, improviser, composer, educator, and researcher whose music explores the dialogue between jazz, flamenco, Mediterranean traditions, and the musical cultures of Southeast Asia. He has performed across Europe and Asia, developing cross-cultural collaborations that connect tradition, improvisation, and contemporary artistic expression.

SRI HANURAGA (Indonesia) · Piano
Sri Hanuraga is an Indonesian pianist, composer, and educator whose work blends contemporary jazz with Javanese musical traditions and digital innovation. An award-winning artist, he has performed and recorded with internationally acclaimed musicians while leading his own creative projects. He currently heads the Jazz & Pop Performance program at Pelita Harapan University (UPH).

JASON MOUNTARIO (Indonesia) · Bass
Jason Mountario is an Indonesian bassist, composer, producer, and educator. A Berklee College of Music graduate, he is active as a performer, recording artist, and lecturer at Pelita Harapan University (UPH). His work bridges contemporary jazz, composition, and music production.

Kelvin Andreas is an Indonesian drummer, composer, and arranger. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he has become one of Indonesia's leading jazz drummers, performing with prominent artists while developing his own creative voice through composition and improvisation.
