CROSS-CULTURAL MUSIC DIALOGUES
"Rodrigo Parejo: Bridging Cultures Through Music"
Music has always travelled across borders. Throughout more than fifteen years of international artistic activity, Spanish flutist, composer, educator and researcher Rodrigo Parejo has developed a unique body of work based on dialogue between cultures through music.
Rather than approaching different musical traditions as separate worlds, his artistic practice is built upon long-term collaborations with musicians, dancers, universities and cultural institutions across Europe and Southeast Asia. Through improvisation, creation and mutual artistic exchange, these collaborations generate new musical languages while respecting the identity of each tradition.
Rodrigo has performed in more than twenty countries and collaborated with internationally acclaimed artists including Phil Woods, Norma Winstone, Steve Thornton, Rianto, Peni Candrarini, Latif Bolat, Lewis Pragasam and many others. His work has been presented at leading international festivals and venues such as North Sea Jazz Festival, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay (Singapore), Rainforest World Music Festival (Malaysia), Ubud Village Jazz Festival (Indonesia), Solo International Performing Arts Festival (Indonesia) and Flamenco Festival Vienna, among others.
His latest album, Nomads, recorded between Indonesia and Spain, reflects this artistic philosophy by bringing together modern jazz, flamenco and musical traditions from Southeast Asia through orchestral, contemporary and improvisational approaches.
Rodrigo's international artistic activities have been supported by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, SGAE Foundation, AIE Society of Artists, Junta de Extremadura, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada), Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds (The Netherlands) and the Ministry of Culture of Indonesia.

ARTISTIC VISION
For Rodrigo Parejo, music is a universal language capable of connecting people, traditions and ways of thinking beyond geographical or cultural boundaries. His work is rooted in listening, improvisation and artistic dialogue, creating spaces where flamenco, jazz, Mediterranean, Javanese, gamelan, Sufi, Indian, African and Latin American traditions can meet naturally through shared creative processes rather than simple stylistic fusion.
Each collaboration becomes an opportunity for mutual learning, artistic research and intercultural understanding, reflecting a contemporary vision of music as a living practice of exchange.
