Rodrigo Parejo and Michal Vanoucek present a repertoire of original compositions with strong influences from jazz, world folk music, classical music, cinematic and spiritual music, among other creative sounds. This will be their first time performing in the intimate duo format after having worked together over the years in various international collective projects such as “The Hague Ethospheric Orchestra,” “As Guests Quintet,” and “Rodrigo Parejo Group,” having performed in countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Canada.

Rodrigo Parejo and Michal Vanoucek present a repertoire of original compositions with great influence from jazz, world folk music, classical music, cinematic and spiritual music, among other creative sounds. Over the years, Rodrigo Parejo and Michal Vanoucek have collaborated on different international collective projects like “The Hague Ethospheric Orchestra,” Vanoucek's “As Guests Quintet” project, and “Rodrigo Parejo Group,” having performed in places such as the Netherlands, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Canada, at prestigious venues like the Bratislava Jazz Days Festival (Slovakia), Jazzdock (Prague), Theater aan het Spui (Netherlands), and more. Some of the artists they have worked with in these projects include leading figures such as Norma Winstone, Alex Sipiagin, Michael Moore, Jesse van Ruller, and Yuri Honing, among others.
Their joint recordings include “Earthing” (2013) by The Hague Ethospheric Orchestra (released by the German label Laika Records), in which Vanoucek is the musical director, arranger, and pianist. As a string orchestra conductor, Vanoucek has also collaborated on projects like Charlie Haden's “American Dreams” (featuring artists like Michael Brecker, Jorge Rossi, and Brad Mehldau), presented at the prestigious Dutch “North Sea Jazz Festival” in 2003, among other projects.
At the same time, the versatile flautist Rodrigo Parejo has collaborated over the years with leading musical artists from different parts of the world, such as Phil Woods, Norma Winstone, Peni Candrarini, Bhungar Khan Company, Lázara López “Cachao,” and Steve Thornton, among others, at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), Rainforest World Music Festival (Malaysia), Ubud Jazz Village Festival (Bali, Indonesia), and the Vienna Flamenco Festival (Austria), among others.

Rodrigo Parejo (flutes, voice, composition)
Rodrigo Parejo (1981) is a versatile jazz musician, improviser, educator, and researcher from Extremadura, Spain, known for his wide musical and intercultural versatility. His constant international musical career has allowed him to share his music in various places around the world, including Europe, Asia, and the Americas, across scenes in Jazz, World Music, Flamenco, Contemporary Dance, and Experimental Creative Music, among other genres. He has worked with numerous international projects and leading figures, such as the legendary Phil Woods, Norma Winstone, London Improvisers Orchestra, The Hague Ethospheric Orchestra, Michael Moore, AsGuests Quintet, Jim McNeely, Mike Manieri, Han Bennink, Alex Sipiagin, Peni Candrarini, Steve Thornton, Lázara López Cachao, Bhungar Khan Company, Saray Muñoz, Antonio Sánchez, and Lucky Losada, among many others, appearing at major international festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), Bratislava Jazz Day (Slovakia), Vienna Flamenco Festival (Austria), Esplanade Theater (Singapore), Rainforest World Music Festival (Malaysia), and Margaret Greenham Theater (Canada).
Rodrigo holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree with honors in Jazz Performance from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands) and a Master's in Flamenco Research and Analysis (University of Cádiz), and he has studied at other leading institutions like the Banff Centre for Arts (Canada), School for Improvisational Music (New York), Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo), and the Institute of Arts (Indonesia). Apart from performance, he works in the field of Music Education, giving masterclasses and workshops at places like Lasalle College of Arts (Singapore), SOTA Singapore School of the Arts, Pelitat Harapan University (Jakarta), Institute of Arts Yogyakarta (Indonesia), and the International Festival of Mérida (Spain), among others.
Michal Vanoucek (piano, keys, composition)
Over the past 25 years, Michal's professional career has encompassed performance, production, direction, composition, and arrangement in various projects, bands, musical productions, and theater productions across Europe, as well as teaching. Among his many roles, his professional career includes: musical director and supervisor of the Dutch national production “Soldaat van Oranje” in the Netherlands (2011-2020). In 2008, Michal won the prestigious “Deloitte Jazz Award” as Solo Musician of the Year in the Netherlands, the most prestigious jazz competition in the country. His two main projects as founder, member, composer, and arranger are: AsGuests (since 1998 - various projects combining jazz, classical, and traditional music, with CDs: “Enter” 2005, “Universal Mind” 2011) and The Hague Ethospheric Orchestra (T.H.E.O, since 2010, an international ensemble of 12 members celebrating the Earth through music, working with leading solo musicians like Eric Vloeimans, Norma Winstone, Alex Sipiagin, Michiel Borstlap, Jesse van Ruller, Yuri Honing, Anton Goudsmit, CD: “Earthing” 2013). In 2003, Michal was the string orchestra director for Charlie Haden's “American Dreams” project (working with artists like Michael Brecker, Jorge Rossi, and Brad Mehldau). He also recorded the CD “Where The Sky Cries” (Origin Records, 2010) with American trumpeter Chad McCullough, with whom he has toured in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho in the United States, among other collaborations with international artists. After residing in the Netherlands for 21 years, he returned to Slovakia in 2020, where he teaches piano, drums, and music theory, and participates in various music and theater projects
