Rodrigo Parejo “MATTERS OF ASIA” (asian electric jazz)
MOA is a project created by the Netherlands-based spanish flute player Rodrigo Parejo, after periods living in and embracing the asian culture in several countries of South-Est Asia, as Indonesia or Cambodia.
MOA is inspired by many of the sounds from Asian culture, integrating them in compositions that sometimes open up adventurous zones of exploration, bringing the music to unpredictable places inside the world of improvisation.
The combination of instruments like flutes, vocal sounds and percussions (bells, gongs, chains,…), all sometimes “prepared” physically or processed through electronic effects, together with the electronic sounds of guitar and keys, create all kinds of atmospheres. From fragile and minimalistic sparkling textures, or exotic melodies, to rougher sounds strongly supported by the drum&bass “brotherhood”, all lead to a collective and explosive rock energy through their heavy grooves.
MOA´s sound is broadly acquainted with modern jazz, 1970s jazz rock, film music and ambient, Javanese gamelan sounds, drum&bass, noise, electronic, arabic sounds,..
M.O.A.:
Rodrigo Parejo: flutes, ethnic flutes, voice, small percussions, effects
Stef van Es: el.guitar, FX
Rafael Morales: el. Bass
Anthony Davis / Greg Smith: drums
(guest: Sri Hanuraga - keys)
